It's a saltwater fly called Surf Candy, the body's made with epoxy. The materials are
Hook: Tiemco 800S 1/0
Thread: Clear fine mono or white flat waxed nylon
Tail: Synthetic hair, white; silver flashabou or Fire Fly; synthetic hair, green, grey, yellow, or blue
Body: Silver mylar tinsel or tubing
Eyes: Adhesive Prismatic
Gills: Red permanent marker
Overbody: Devcon 5-minute Epoxy
The book I have that it's in is Tying Saltwater Flies: 12 of the Best by Deke Meyer. It's a thin paperback and about 32 pages but is very good for other patterns mainly used in saltwater. It's full color so it's $9.95.
Ship theres a video on how to make them somewhere. I watched it last year. When I was tying these up for striper's. I looked at it.

Never did get to try those out. We were wearing the Striper's out on top water. They would average 7 lbs each. and then got done in my back and never got to try one out.

Jack Gartside is another very innovative tyer. These are some of his saltwater flies, but smaller versions would be good in freshwater (click on the "Northeast Gamefish" tab):

I've been looking for a recipie for over a year now. They sell on ebay and are REAL expensive. Guy says they are a pain to tie. the small one looks great for crappie.
Thank you everyone. It just looked like a killer fly. I saw the picture while surfing, but my computer crashed and I did not save the site to go back to it. I appreciate your help.

Lot of good baitfish patterns
Deather before discos pattern isnt hard to tie. just time consuming..large mylar tubing with center pulled out...marabou for body tail.....tie in at front to cinch front of tubing...then tie at tail to cinch back... take off vise..flatten the sucker...paint your eyes/gills then epoxy it. I'll see if i can find my link to that baitfish patterns
