Grenada Crappie

Do you keep Bass when you catch them while Crappie fishing? The Bass in Grenada are in rough shape due to several years of low water and poor spawn and recruitment with high mortality on the fry according to a MSDWFP biologist I spoke to earlier this year. Of course, it's legal and you're completely in your rights to keep them out of Grenada, or any other lake for that matter, but I post this as a request especially to the out of towners who might not realize this. I don't want to start an argument, keep 'em all if you want, but just wanted to throw this out there for those that might consider it.

From what I was told, Enid and Sardis are in much better shape as far as Bass go, but Grenada's Bass could use all the help they can get.

Actually, I've kept bass when Crappie fishing myself just to fill out a cooler. But dang they're getting scarce on Grenada. I probably only caught 3 or 4 Largemouth all of last year while Crappie fishing. 10 years ago it was 2 or 3 per trip.

If you like Lemon Peppered fish, Bass are the way to go, but believe it or not, the stripes are even better. The way gas prices are food costs are going up, we'll all be eating Carp before it's over. :)

Grow your own food, go solar, go wind, and compost everything. How sustainable can we really be? that is what everyone needs to start asking themselves expecially with gas prices and inflation. The govt aint gonna help you.. as well as they shouldn't. I know with food prices i am keeping them bass, they cook up good if you know what you are doing. Personally i try to throw the females back when i can. that's the least we can all do and only keep what you can eat in a couple of days. I know alot of you guys like to fill your freezers, but really Fresh fish is so much better, wouldn't you agree? JMO though!! Looks like its finally warming up and stabilizing.

Naahh, just funnin'..........No, 20-25 years ago, I thought bass were IT.........kept'em all. But I got converted to the "white perch", and ain't looked back. I remember back in the 80's when they put several, several thousand Florida Strain fingerlings in Grenada, and the hopes were great by the MDWFP it would be a premier bass lake, but it appears that plan just couldn't sustain. Naah, I'll throw'em back in a heartbeat.......don't keep nothin' but crappie..........and rather have them 13" fish over the 2.5 - 3 lbers.

It's been 3-4 years since I accidentally caught one while crappie fishing, but even then I used to throw em back. A bass ain't that bad to eat, but you don't want to mix it in with crappie, makes it not quit so good in a side by side comparison.
