My baot motor
i have a 1992 Mecury 15hp 2stoke electric start. I need some help trying to figure out what is wrong with it. Yesturday I went out for a couple of hours and while I was motoring across the lake at a break neck speed it just died. In order to get it back to the truck I had to pull the choke out and run it at nearly full throttle. other times it won't start or as soon as I put it in gear and start to take off it dies, It sounds like it bogs down and dies. Any suggestions.

Look for water in fuel first. Could be hole in fuel line or collapsing liner of fuel line. Look for the simple things first------the voice of experience.

 check the fuel filter/pump

Check your fittings, I too had problems and still do. I would also say anything that deals with the fuel is most likely the problem. Like they said check everything out from the tank to carb. Maybe even the carb. Hope not.

All these sugestions are a good idea to check, if these ideas dont work then check for a clogged jet of a bad fuel pump diaphragm

Check and make sure the vent on the gas tank’s open. It could be as simple as a vapor lock. It’s happened to me before. VERY aggravating!

Thanks for the info
I have tried a few of these suggestions and will try the others today. I might add that once I prime the bulb it holds a prime I have not had any trouble with it loosing it's prime. Last year I had to replace the o-ring on the filter assembly because I was loosing my prime

if your bulb holds prime and does not lose it after operating motor this eliminates line to fuel pump problem.and you have vent cap open.your carb will have to come off.most of the time you can disassemble clean and reassemble and run perfectly.this runs usually 50 bucks (good ole boy price)to install kit is quite a bit more expensive.your mixture screw sets at-srew all the way in-back out 1 turn-then fine tune while running.

Before you do anything major run a can of Seafoam in 3 gal of gas thru it. The stuff is almost magic!

I had a similar problem a few years ago. The motor would start easy, and run good for a ways, then die. I would turn around, start it back up, run down the lake, and it would die again. I finally figured out that when I turned around after starting, I was sitting on the fuel line:D Like it has already been said, check the simple things first!
