Today I used my 997 for the first time and found that the sonar screen, when over 20 mph, showed a lot of colored fuss on the screen. Operates well at lower speeds. Is the transducer mounted too high? It is sitting 1/4" below the hull. Another question I have, is the side imaging not supposed to work at high speeds? Got a lot of nothing on the screen. Otherwise, this thing is going to be awesome when I get the kinks worked out. Any help on these issues will be appreciated.
1weezer can help you the best with that probably.
I think most people use the side scan at 2.5-5mph. That seems to work best on mine. Hope this helps.

It depends on what type of boat you are running. If it is a fiber glass boat we usally mount the side imaging transducer on the second step right under the motor so when you are running this transducer is completly out of the water. Then we epoxy a transducer in the hull (XP 9 20) in the hull and use a Y cable (AS SI DBY) to tie it together.
Joby, I have an aluminum boat so this will not work. Is the sonar supposed to work at high speeds?
Yes you should be able to get a 2D reading at high speeds. Side Imaging I would say anywhere from 1 to 10 miles per hour. If you can send me a picture of the transom of the boat and where the transducer is mount I may be able to give you some suggestions. My email address is [email protected] .
Trying to help a friend with one side being dark when he's cruising but look at how fast he's going and what he still sees on the right.
Just seen a snap shot of side scan at 52 MPH looked pretty good.
