Gonna get set up for spider rigging. I am looking at the Crappie Wizard series of B & M rods in 10' and 12'. Two questions. One is there any advantage of cork over foam or vise versa ans is 10 and 12 the correct length. I have searched and found all kinds of responses but I would kinda like to see what my fellow Tennesseans think. Also looking at the Driftmaster 250 4 rod holder set for my Bass Boat
personal preference, all mine are foam and work great. I use the heavier version of the tite-lock black widow for trolling. 10' footers out the front and 12' to side
All of mine are foam too, I have never used cork for trolling. I use to do the same with the 10' footers out front and 12' footers to the side but just recently went to 12' footers out the front and 14' footers on the sides. I use Perroti Bilt rod holders. This set up works great for me but might not for the next guy. I have heard very good things about the Crappie Wizard rods and the Driftmaster rod holders.
I have one of the older Driftmaster 4 rod holders and it works fine. As for the rods, I like the cork. Just sitting here thinking about it, the reason is probably I've always uses cork handles and am too old to change.
I have used the 12 foot crappie wizard poles and I like them. They have the foam handles. I like the foam because if I use a double hook setup I attach 1 hook to the rod guide and the stick the other in the foam handle to keep them from tangling. The foam seems to hold up better for me. If I am vertical fishing I like the feel and balance of cork. I think it is mostly personal preference though.
The sun will take it's toll on a cork handle before a foam handle.
I have 12 crappie wizard poles and love every one of them. Would be all I use but since B&M bought Richard out they have gone crazy on the price. I bought some HT 12' rods the other day and they have a little better rod seat and longer handle, but everything is the same except colors they use the exact same rod blank. and I got them for $30 each instead of 50 for the BM Crappie Wizzard. Don't get me wrong, wouldn't take anything for my wizard poles but I can almost get two rod for the price of one
Sorry, Missed the point there. I have a couple of cork handle, and the problem is they don't hold up as well as the foam. But you can always wrap them.
I think I have settled on the foam for my new rods. Thanks for the replies.
