CB Radio In Boat

I was thinking about puttin my c.b. radio in the boat, is there anybody else that have c.b.'s in there boat?.
It would be cool to talk to others on the lake. I know Cracker has a radio in his Garmin gps unit, but I don't think a c.b. can talk to that kind of radio?.
We should be able to talk from just about anywere on the lake, and it would be a nice thing to have if someone has trouble on the lake.
Shoot we might could get Ole Clayton to get one and talk to us, and stop watching Jerry Springer on his tv.

Well I was thinking about the long range radios they have at BPS.I beat they would be pretty good maybe the ones that reach upto 10-15 miles and everyone in your click stay on the same channel.Which this day and time with the cell phones me and Thrill if not together we are chattering on them if one has problems we can run to the other and then tell how the fishing is on one end of the lake versus the other.Blue tooth on cells really work great but then again yall are on Reelfoot I dont know how the phone reception is there now days.I know it use to really bite when I duck hunted it a few years ago.

I sold my GPS when I bought my new fishfinder, but I have been thinking about buying a new radio. You can get some of the GMRS and they will push out there but they require you to get a permit to run them. But I never thought about a CB. Whats the range on those things?

I like the idea of Clayton getting one, so I can call him and tell him I need more minnows.

The law is that with the handheld GMRS radios such as the Midland brand you are supposed to get a license to operate them. I am one that likes to follow the law and so after I bought my radios and found that I had to "buy a license" to talk on them, I was more than a little put out. They work w/o license and I don't think all those people you see walking around in Gatlinburg with them have bought the license. Do you have to purchase a license to use a CB? I think so. Do you think truck drivers pay to use their radios? I'm in no way saying that if no one else follows the law then we might as well join in. I like to know what I'm paying for though and it's not very clear as to what that is.

I tried to research it and find out what you are paying for and I guess it's for the right to talk on the airways.

Anyone else have any info. on this subject because I'm a little confused as to the whole license thing.

I'm retired from truck drivering and used C.B.'s for over 30 years, and they use to make you buy a license to operate, BUT not anymore.
They stopped requiring license many years ago. As far as the talking range of the C.B., if you have the swr's set right you can cover pretty much the whole lake.

I have talked about five miles from my truck many times, BUT like I said you have to have your swr's [ antenna adjusted ] set right. Radio Shack sells swr meters and there not that expensive, but a must have if you are gonna have a good talking radio.

I think a C.B. in your boat here on Reelfoot with our gang of guys would be a hoot. You can get a long cord for your microphone and that way it will reach
to the front of your boat.
I think I may mount mine up front anyway so I can fish and talk at the same time...lol, remember the C.B. is not water proof.
If yall need a little advice give me a shout, I'm no expert, but have used them for 30 years to help me make a living on the road.

I have a marine radio in my boat and I love it. when some of my buddies are on the water we communicate pretty good. It is VHF and has the weather chanel on it, plus emergency coast guard (channel 16)

Well that's good to know. I wonder why they have that written in the instructions of the manual? Oh well, Thanks.

I've got four of the handhelds, I'll bring my up and we can see what they will do RFY.

Thinking of putting a galaxie with new finals put in it with about a 1000 watt eagle kicker then on them cloudy days we'll be able to talk skip to them douglas boyz on the east side!!

Shoot them ole east Tn. boys don't know nuttin about electric stuff, they just hollar at each other...hey unes cathin som.
They just now discovered toilet paper in east TN.....lol.
