Haven't been there in a couple of years but I have done pretty good in the past.
I haven't fished Jerden Brake in about 4 years. I live within about 20 minutes of the brake and would fish it 2-3 times a year and seldom catch more than a few crappie each trip. I usually went there when the wind was just too bad to fish anywhere else.
I have never understood why the lake does not produce (for me anyway) any better than it does. It may be a little to clear for my type of fishing??? It was always a joke between me and my brother-in-law. The land owner of the ramp we used would ALWAYS say, "They were tearing them up yesterdee". We began calling it Lake Yesterdee. We never talked to anyone on the lake that did much good.
At one time, there were a couple of other reservoirs open to the public that were much better choices. Becks Reservoir east of Humnoke off Hwy 165 (now magaged more for duck hunting) and Coburn Brake south of Humnoke. (now high $ annual membership fee).
The best crappie fishing in the world however was in that area down the Big Ditch in a lake off of Bayou Meto. This small 20 acre lake produced limits every single trip from Jan-April for about 5 years until the land owners blew out the gap into Bayou Meto for drainage. :(
The fun, the laughs, and the memories I shared with Dad, a special Uncle, and friends during those times are very special. Those were the days. :D
