I will never fish in wood except around some docks. Also I'll usually be fishing over weeds.
My question is this.
On 1/16 oz jig. What size sicle hook would you or do you recommend?
Thanks in advance.

I've been tyeing and using # 4 almost exclusively.no complaints here.
I like a #6, but also will use a #4.
I'd use #4s. It'll be a good all around size. #6 will work good, too, and will work better for bream with their smaller mouths.
If you are not fishing around brush you can use either a #4 or if you want a little shorter profile you can go with the #6. #4 is by far the most popular.

I use a #6 hook mainly because of the profile. It has good strength for the Crappie and occasional other "Trash fish" that will hit it. I am usually fishing for Crappie, Crappie, Crappie, White Bass, did I say Crappie, or Perch. A #6 is a good all around hook.
Thank you gentlemen.
I guess I buy 50 of each.
Dang bait monkey:mad:.
Now that that's narrowed down?
I've been reading a few different recommendations as to the red, bronze and gold colored hooks. People are talking about them being made cheaply and the red coming of etc. etc. Being new to crappie fishing, how important is color going to be to me? The water I'm fishing is probably extremely clean to some people in the southern states. I say it's about weak tea color most of the time.
I read C.com constantly and don't have a clue.
What's the consensus say about color?
I know these questions have been asked before on other threads. But,,,,,I have a very short memory and this time ( I promise) I'll write down the answers and study them.
Of course my next ?? will be on where to buy them.
I'm in my first year of tying these jigs up and have about used up all my junk, and miscellaneous jigs practicing. Now, I want to get down to business and do them right.
Thank you again.
The hook color won't really matter. I use bronze finished sickle hooks. It's the cheapest sickle hook and I don't have any better luck with red, black chrome, or gold hooks.
For where you get them, are you pouring them yourself or are you buying the plain jigheads from someone to tie on? If you're buying them made to tie on, PM GrouseFly, and there's quite a few other folks around here selling them. Just do a search or go back a page or two here in the jig tying forum.
I like any hook that is sharp!
Last question.
With the collar or without?
With barb or without?
Sorry that was two questions.
