Newbe With A Question

Hey

What a great site!!! I was nosing around and found this site. I am glad I did!! I have been making Lures (Little Baby Teddys- inline spinners) and Jigs for years. I live in the South Subs of Chicago and fish the Great lakes for perch, salmon and walleyes. Once a year, I fish up in Canada and Lake Erie for walleyes. I have just started fishing for Crappie. We are planning a trip to KY Lake in April. I have just started tying Jigs in marabue and chenille. I usally tie jigs using deer tails for Walleyes, Small Mouth Bass and Northerns. Will deer hair Work for Crappie? Why do most fisherman use Marabue and chenille for crappie. Where is the best place to buy chenille? I just started using power coat- I love it. How do you paint eyes or adhere eyes with power coat? Off the sudject, also I started a orgainzation called R.A.M.P IL (R)amp (A)Access for (M)ore (P)eople. Its a group that fights for your rights to have access to the lakes. We are losing Ramp Access to our waterways in this area because of many reasons including casios and goverment spending allocated funds. But that is yet another story. Anyway Thank you for you help with the Jigs information.

Chenille makes a nice, clean body and marabou gives you great action in the water. Deerhair (bucktail) makes a nice jig, too.

You said a mouthful there! So true. Welcome on board.

Here in Alabama we use deer hair jigs for lots of different species. It's a killer on crappie. We use bigger jigs with more hair for stripers and medium sized ones for bass and the smaller ones for crappie. I like to use them because most other crappie fisherman are throwing store bought plastics. I like to give them something they don't see as often.

Many of us use a mix of materials. Check out Krystal Flash. I like mixing it with hackle to add a touch of pink flash to white hackle jigs.

Thank you for the information!! I too use Krystall Flash. I call it LED lights just for fun. So, I tied some jigs with deer and some with Marabue. I agree with throwing something the fish arn't use to seeing. Finding and tying the chenille is a concern. I went to Bass Pro and they have the chenille. I was hoping to get it somewhere a little cheaper in price. I feel a part of tying is getting a good deal on the tying stuff. Free if you can. I went to a local fabric store and hobby store. But it didn't look like the right stuff. The only chenille they had looked just like pipe cleaners. When I was a kid (Which seem a life time ago and is), Chennille was everywhere! Anyway, again thanks for the welcome.

Thanks for the info. Barlow looks to be a great place to get chenille. I will be ordering from them in the future. However for now, I went over to Bass Pro and got a few cards from them, just to try it out. The chenille ran from $1.47 to $2.99 per card for Med and it looks like you get about 5 yds per card. The more sparkle the more you pay. It looks like you start the chenille at the end and wrap to the head leaving room at the head to tie off and whip finish. Again thanks. I will let you know how I do!!

Well I tied some. I can tell you that Chenille is the way to go when tying Jigs. It's way easier and looks great. Thanks for the help!
