Taylorsville in Late February/Early March

Gonna get out to Tville in the next couple of weeks. A little earlier than I normally do. Gotta get out there after alot of years without any serious crappie fishing.

Most of my experience there has been at spawn/post-spawn.

Got any advice for general areas to try at this time of year.

Just looking to eliminate as much unproductive water as possible before getting there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hope to see some of you out there this year. Will probably be out there two or three weekend days a month.

I'll be in the White Stratos 200 FS with red and black trim.

I think it may be a couple of weeks or more, before you could even "think" about hitting T-ville. It's 9.6ft above Summer Pool, right now :eek:

I always check here http://www.lrl.usace.army.mil/wc/reports/lkreport.html before heading there. Click on the number under "Today's Pool Feet", and it will give you another chart that shows precip amt, water level/fluctuations, and outflow amt. Now, as far as "where" to fish ..... :confused: .... good question :D
I have caught Crappie, fishing off the bank, in Dec/Jan/Feb ... using the same 1/16oz jigheads & 1.5" plastic tubes that I normally throw ... fishing over a blowdown tree that was on a deep bank. Strangely enough, they came from fairly close to the bank and right close to the trunk of the tree. Problem is ... that tree is no longer there :( ... so I haven't been there, at this time of year, since that tree disappeared.
Most of my pre-spawn experience (with good results) has come in mid April ... and my spawn experience has been best during the first couple of weeks of May. Most of this time, the Crappie seem to be in <12ft of water ... and occasionally as shallow as 3ft ... with the 6-8ft bottom depth being the most preferred.

Sorry I can't help you any more than that, but I just haven't been enough to really give you any advice for this timeframe.

Will keep an eye out for you !! And don't forget to post about any trips you make, to T-ville or wherever.

Thanks for the reply and info. I know of a few blow downs that I can try.

It'll be good just to get out and be on the water.

I will definitely post results of any trips. Hopefully they'll include some good fish tales.

Tville is only about 30-40 minutes from me so it is easy to get out for a 1/2 day and not waste too much time and gas getting there and back.

Geoman, crappie fishing can be decent all winter at Tville. We usually use minnows and slipfloats fished anywhere from 8 to 18 ft deep over deeper water. You have to let them take it for a few seconds before setting the hook. Like CP said though, won't be worth going for a couple of weeks until they get the lake stabilized. Good luck.

A couple more weeks will work.

Other commitments just became high priority, so it will be awhile before I can think about fishing again.

I do pretty good at the 'ville that time of year. I use 1/16 tube jigs in "night minner" from BPS. I find fallen trees near deep water. I fish the jig through the tree limbs, climbing over the branches. Use a weedless jig head. The bite normally just feels like a "tick" and it usually happens just after you come over a branch and the jig starts to fall again. Good Luck.

Last year I did pretty good real early while the water was still cold by
fishing deep water in front of the trees, open water 55' deep.
I caught some 14" ones that way.
I only fished several feet deep, and I had to use minnows on jigs casting
but straight down beside the boat worked too.
Any deeper and they wouldn't hit, kinda strange. :)

About 25 or 30 miles south east of Louisville. if that helps

It's about 4 hours east of you, way to far drive when Ky lake and Barkley are nearly in your back yard:)
