I do the same as Tim but I insert my air hose against the hole and apply a little air preasure... buckets will come apart real quick....;)

drill the hole in the bottom side of the bucket and not the very bottom, otherwise when you apply the air you get your knuckles busted, lol.
I pull them apart with a twisting motion...you may not want holes drilled in them. If you are the one stacking them together....spray a non stick cooking spray on them....you can get a cheap can a wally world for 1.29 . If your planning on using the buckets for condos or bait buckets I think the non stick spray is fine...just don't use wd-40.....
