What do you look for when picking the locations to put your condos?
I look for people in boats who have binoculars, I look for the game warden, and I also keep my eyes peeled for bank fisherman...that's why I put mine out on real cold days, or I go out real early or real late.:D :D :DQuote:

I like to put them under bridges next to columns or between columns... that way I know I exactly where they are... no need for a GPS......
I prefer to put mine in areas no one else fishes. I love flats that are void of cover.......the flats may only have 10 percent of the fish in the area, but if I have the only cover on that flat guess where all those fish on that flat are! They are usually willing to bite as well since everyone else is fishing in or near the channels.
I agree that most fish use channels, but so do most fisherman......try putting them in areas void of fisherman and cover and I think you will be happy w/ what you find. However, don't forget to drop some near channel bends as well just in case a cold front comes through.

I sink mine on the river, so I look for bends with deep holes that would normally push bait/stuff toward a specific shoreline. I like to drop deep (18-20ft is deep here) and then build a line of structure up to around 8ft (keeping in mind low water levels in summer) so a boat can pass over the tops safely.
Or I find a cove and build a shallow water "partyshack" LOL!! I use Christmas trees so far, but I think I'm going to build better stuff now...
I've caught more crappie out of the tops that I've put on flats in 10 to 15 feet of water than any other location also. Less pressure is definately a factor. Everyone follows the creeks and will find and fish your structure. The biggest problem with that is boats anchoring and dragging your structure off or crushing it.
LOL, you must be from a state like mine that doesn't allow sinking cover. Can do it on private waters, but not on any public or state run lakes. "IF" I was gonna sink anything, it would be both on flats and near points and drop offs with no other available cover. I have also stumbled across a couple spots where someone has tied a loop around standing timber and tied christmas trees to the loop to hold them up off the bottom at different depths. I wish I could say it was my idea, but I have caught quite a few crappie off those spots. The local lake got real low this summer with the lack of rain so I think everyone knows about those spots now. They were good while they were secrets though.Quote:
