I just recently bought a mold to pass some time. I have never poured jigs before so I thought I would post some pics. I don't really no if I did it right so if you can help I would be very thankful. The first two pictures are what they looked like after I poured them and the next is after I took a file and cleaned them up.

They look good afterwards, but instead of sitting there and filing it, you can just take wire cutters and cut the sprue off cut off the or pliers and twist it off. After that, if you want to you can file down the little bit of rough that's left. I don't bother with it usually.
Are you preheating your mold?
That helps prevent some of that sprue.
I set mine on the top of the pot after I place the hooks in them for a couple of minutes. It really helps make the pours cleaner.
Jerry is right about preheating first. I pour lead through it afew times before I place hooks in it to get it warm.
Yes I preheated the mold. I put it on top of the pot until it was hot. Someone told me to put more lead in them and than I could just work them back and forth until they break of.
Another thing that causes that is the lead not being hot enough. Go to the do it website and they have a Q&A page for symptoms and solutions. To get good quality heads they always require a little polishing but you can reduce that by getting better pours. Practice, practice, practice... :eek:
What size are they? I am interested in pouring my own, but I can't find a mold that does 16th #2 hooks with a plastic weedless insert! All the ones I have seen for 16th use #4 hooks......
They are 1/16oz, look at do-it mold they have everything and are the cheapest. I can use number 4 or number 2 hooks in mine. I bought mine of ebay but do-it molds have them for $28.00. Hope this helps.

I have a Barlow's catalog and even checked the Do-it website. Just don't see a 16th round head with weedguard that will handle a #2 hook......I guess I could get the 16th round head jig mold and cut a slot in it for the weedguard.... or do like you suggest and get the one that does #4 hooks and make the eye larger for #2 hooks. HMMMMM.....
