I have a brushpile I'd like to throw in a local lake. I have a couple of places picked out but I'd like for the pile to be at the bottom of a drop-off in the main channel. Would this be a good place or should I get the pile more on the drop-off?

Anywhere in, on or near a primary or secondary channel will be a good place. You optimal positions are one in the bottom (deep), one on the drop off (mid-range) and the one on top (relatively shallow) so the crappie can move up and down in depth to find their comfort zone year-round.
I have had success dropping them on the bottom, mid depth and shallow right before the drop. I kind of use a inverted T pattern when dropping them. This gives them deep mid-depth and shallow cover..
