Does anyone know about curing pheasant tails? I sure would hate to let maggots and other bugs invade them. My friend came back from hunting the OK panhandle and brought me back some full tails. I salted the base of the tails last night and assumed that just letting them air out would be good enough. Anybody know anything about this??
That is all I ever do to mine is salt them or use Borax on them it does about the same as salt. Been doing it for years that way. just keep out of reach of critters cause they like them.

I just use salt and borax, the same as I do for a squirrel or buck tail. Hang it high and let it dry.
gladyou said something boutbucktails. i got 12 of em i forgot about.. need to clean em up i know there dry now

If you are worried about bugs, I have heard to store them in a zip lock bag with some moth balls for a while, or put them in a bag then into the freezer for a week or two.
Wow to think I was just going to ask this. How about pheasant capes? Same thing I would guess?
