I prefer bronze over gold..
For jigs I use bronze, for minnow hooks I use gold. Just what I grew up doing.
The only jigheads I've ever made, myself, I used bronze hooks. But, since I've started getting my jigheads custom-made by Grousefly, he's put three different colors of hook in them -- gold, bronze, & red. Haven't seen much difference in the number of bites, due to hook color, though.Quote:

Im going to try the red or black jigs hooks from mustad for my next crappie heads.
I use either bronze or red. The color of the material I use is really the determining factor for the attracting qualities. Bronze and red are just my personal preference.
red
I Guess I Have Tried Just About Everything When It Comes To Hook Colors. Bronze/gold/red/black/chart/crawdad, And I Personally Don't Think It Makes Alot Of Difference To The Fish But It Sure Makes A Difference When It Comes To The Man/woman...lol. But It All Falls Back To Confidence...lol...that's The Key....:d
GrouseFly you summed it up perfectly.
Rarely have luck with gold or red hooks. Bronze and nichel plate seem to do better.
