bad outings at taylorsville lake

i am new to this area been here only a few months :D am trying to find new lakes to fish have gone to taylorsville a few times seems like the boaters there have no consideration for anyone else :confused: they will run by you only a few feet from you i mainly fish for bass but do a little crappie fishing too was there saturday and same thing happened while your fishing they go by you closely or pull in front of you while you are fishing :mad: or have i been there at the wrong times is this common here or not i have fished the eastern part of state and or boats give you alot of space:)

it's the size of the lake, the proximity to the large urban Louisville area, the season for heavy water traffic, the narrowness of the lake itself, the abundance of tournaments held there, etc .... that is the reason for these problems. The fishing there is sub-par, in comparison to other lakes in the state ... but, it's location (and former glory days) still keeps a high volume of boat traffic coming to it.

Where are you located ?? And how far are you willing to travel ?? That would give me a better idea of where to suggest you try.

Well I definitely cannot contest anything in the boating realm [ I don't own a boat ], but man, if you fish the dock up there by the main launch pad, and you're there around 5:30 on a week day, you might as well pack up, there will be 30 boats out there on fridays all within talking distance from each other and just really making it impossible to fish from the bank, until they all get dissapated out.

It really is a bummer, but because of days like that I really have just nearly stopped all visiting there until I get a boat. I understand I could walk a half hour around a bend somewhere but some days I don't have a lot of time and I'm just there to enjoy myself even more so than to just get the biggest fish imagineable. I guess it's just the way things are there, and after I noticed it on several occasions a month or two ago, that just made me not really pay attention to that lake as much. Seems a shame that some of the people think that because they have a mega buck boat they have more of a right to be there than you, I know that everyone is NOT like that but there are definitely a few out there and maybe sounds like some of those type fellas are the kind you ran across while there. It's sad but there do seem to be many more of those types there than most places I've ever been. Unfortunate, but hey, there are plenty more places close that I can go to, and I'm sure I have much more fun not having to worry about that kind of non sense. Nice to meet ya, anyhow.

i live in shelbyville. i have no problem going to lakes up to a couple hours away. i have a few days vacation that i'm going to dale hollow the last of oct. i was hoping to find some close to here.i was hoping taylorsville would be good only 25 min. from where i live. i haven't tried guist creek lake. haven't got to good information about it.they say it's tough fishing.

you might want to call Giust Creek before you go there, someone an another thread said the ramp was closed, low water.

That would put you less than 2hrs away from :
Cedar Creek Lake (good for Bass, poor for Crappie, no skiing/tubing allowed)

Just over 2hrs from Green River Lake (good Bass, Crappie, Muskie lake)

About 2.5hrs from Barren River Lake (good Bass, Crappie, Hybrid Striper lake)

About 2hrs from Nolin Lake (not familiar with this lake, sorry)

Less than 1.5hrs from Herrington Lake (good Bass, Crappie, Hybrid Striper Lake ... but, not an easy lake to figure out) All ramps have launch fees.

And about 45mins from Beaver Lake (good Bass, Crappie, Bluegill, Catfish lake) ... 10hp limit (bigger motors are allowed, but cannot be started/used) .. very small lake (158acres)

You can look these lakes up and check them out, if any interest you .... then post here for more input from any members that fish them regularly.

when i lived in winchester i have went to cedar creek ,herrington,and beaver.i liked herrington, had alot of places you could get away from jetskis and pleasure boaters. cave run and grayson was good. had good luck at grayson for crappie and bass there.
