Homemade Italian Baguette Black Pepper Sausage Sandwich
While doing battle with my Mercedes (post to follow later) I had a new pizza crust recipe fermenting in the fridge for 4 days. While walking Walmart's sausage aisle I spotted this sausage I never tried. Our local producer makes a Black Pepper Cheddar Smoked Sausage. I pulled the pack I bought out and lit the grill outside to cook it up.

Shaping the baguettes first takes a little handling. After the initial punching down of the dough I cut it into 3 dough balls then pre-shaped before placing on the pan to rise.

Here the baguettes have rose really well and are now ready for a egg wash.

One well scrambled egg with 2 tablespoons of water mixed well then brushed over the tops of the Baguettes before placing in the 450 degree oven for 15 minutes.

While baking in the oven I put the sausage on the grill.

Fresh out of the oven still hot I cut a Baguette for each of us to make a sandwich. I hoped the picture would catch the steam rising out of the bread but it didn't.

Splitting the sausage longways, dressing the hot break with Mayo on both sides, construction began. This type of sausage I really like old school French's Mustard.

Some Dill Pickles and fresh Lettuce finished it up. This was a really great sandwich, the bread was soft, tender, juices from the sausage squirting in your mouth with each bite, it was good my car was back together finally before eating this sandwich.

Kinda messy assembly, even messier to eat. 2 napkin sandwich for sure.
