Rojo or Slab special

Looking at a 2004 Toyota Avalon with 250,000 miles on it.
needs timing belt. Front struts. Valve cover gasket. I drove it today.
runs good. Shifts out good. Normal wear and tear. I’d have 3000 in it after repairs. The owners don’t know if timing belt has ever been replaced. So being it’s an interference motor. I think I should change it and not risk it.
chime in mechanics. What yall think. Much easier to get in and out of than Camry was. It’s a piglet on steroids. 😂
automatic also. My neuropathy in left foot won’t factor in.

Slept on it. I’m gonna get it iffn it’s still available today. Cheap dependable transportation.
I saw reviews of this year model going 4-500000 miles. If I can get 50,000 miles. That .06 a mile. Lol

If it had a timing chain, I would say leave it alone. Since it has a belt, I would change it. Depends on how good of shape everything else whether it would be worth it. Struts and timing belt are going to cost a pretty penny.

Timing chain or belt replacement is one of the first things I do on all the used stuff I buy. Some of those have the water pump behind the timing cover. If that one does get 2 birds with one task and replace the water pump also. I also buy pulley/idler/belt kits and replace all of those but stay away from Gates, I've been installing junk pulleys from them lately. Gates use to be a goods brand but not anymore.

PS Rockauto kills it on price and quality.........

Yerp Rojo. The water pumps back there. Research agrees with you change it and pulleys. What you think about oem timing belt and water pump.

Lately I have been buying OEM on most everything. Since most of my projects are American made Rockauto has had OEM parts needed. For example my 2006 expedition needed new Shifter Bushings and a Multi-Function Switch (Turn Signal Hazzard Switch Module) (Post to follow) I got both in Motorcraft brand from Rockauto. Yota parts are harder to OEM from aftermarket sellers. That being said check Rockauto for high quality Aftermarket products too. Look for "Lifetime Warranty" products. I do not buy 12 month warranty products as I value my time. If you have any questions you can always PM me or if you want to talk through a problem I will do that too if it helps you.
