I had to remove the base from my boat to get the pedestal out. I cleaned both up real good and its free now. My question is what do yal use to lubricate the pedestal to prevent it from doing this. I really dont want to use grease for fear of getting it on my carpet when i remove it. Is there a good clear grease that anyone knows of?
Maybe a spray-on teflon, silicone coating, or liquid graphite.
I sanded both the base and all poles with 220 grit, then 320, then coated with dry lube spray and let them cure overnight before assembling. Now they slip right in/out
Permatex Anti Seize in the silver container, brush inside on the cap. (The copper version would work, too)
Clean it well, then brush a small amount on it, and consider it done. A very small amount.
Done.
If you later find it on your nose, ears, around your eyes, keys, or such - you used too much!

Both suggestions are good ones. I use anti seize myself.
I have always used "dry film lubricant"-aka spray graphite. Doesn't take very much. And, once every so often, take the pedestal out, clean it, put it back in.
You didn't mention what type of base. Pin bases with Bronze inserts I use CRC Marine Wheel Bearing Grease it's hydrophobic, rubber insert pin base I use a Silicone Lubricant. If it's a Post going into a cast aluminum base as suggested above Never-seize Permatex brand with the Nickel.
I had wedge style in my first Lund think they were swivl eze they used to get stuck really bad, I put a muffle clamp,around the tube on them put some 6”6” blocks on the floor and pry on the muffler clamp with a 2”x4” side to side.
Current Lund has the straight tube spring fields they’ve always came out easily.
