How bad do ya want to ketch them is the question . What would you do if the barometer went to the moon and the temperature was 25 degrees lower than the day before and to top it off a big dump of nice cold rain to top it all off .
you are on foot and only have your knowledge of how crappie might behave in this scenario to help ya .......
these were the conditions a few days ago here in my part of the world.
Rolled up on that there bluebird lovely light north wind day ,full of sunshine and cooler weather , with a definitive ding dong attitude about what a cake walk it's going to be for me .....all alone on what is likely a pile of crappie that are under educated.
Well ,let me say this , my attitude and confidence went south right quickly , after about 15 minutes of only a peck or 2 here and there and only 1 crappie .......
Desperation kicked in and I went full hard core , not today you silly fish I told myself , you will not best me , it's pretty clearly me against them and most of the time I am slightly smarted than a crappie.
ripped off my plastic and went down with what some would say is flat out ridiculous . 3 Berkley crappie nibbles threaded on the hook and dropped to the bottom for some of that there VERY subtle finesse ketchn stuff ....
Sure enough they were all lock jawed up sitting on the bottom in 12 fow , the bites did not exist in the mind of most folks , just something like I think that MIGHT be a fish type of action .....
So after I started to work them over slowly with this set up ....here comes the ... let's step this up a notch ....
ketched me a weeee lil one and said to it , bad day to be a batfish bro ......
a whack in the head with my yeti on the dock and a razor sharp knife and them there 3 nibbles got them a trailer ....
NEVER say never and for sure don't roll away from lock jawed crappie to terribly quickly , sometimes it just is what it is yawl ..... 45 or so in 3 hours is kind of slow for me , but it beats heck out of 1 or 2 in my book all day long ...
all of them went free ,cept that one lil wee one .....it finally got put back when it was only a head and tail :Rofl
live minnows are diddly compared to this set up for sure ...btw ...just saying
and for sure KABOOM is the word .....:cheers2
p.s. using crappie for bait , is illegal on public waters in Texas , I was on a private lake :highfive
and then if all else fails , strips of bream work very well in this type of scenario too
