Kayak Trip Report, Limestone Bay/Creek

I returned to the upper end of Limestone Creek and the pits today and the fish found my jig and bobber agreeable. I kept half a limit and returned 25 or 30 fish that measured. The largest two fish were 14 to 15 inches, and I returned short fish all morning. Channel Cat were also everywhere with four kept and five more returned. Visibility is about a foot with the water 69 degrees at daylight warming to 71 by midday. Wheeler is down about two feet from full pool.

If you are going out tomorrow in a kayak be careful, Bass Tournament on Wheeler. Some are very professional anglers' and gentlemen, but a couple boats today went by me on a plane at 60 MPH way up in Limestone Creek only giving me 100 feet of space and huge waves to deal with.

Saw the video they released today of the boat crash on Smith Lake that killed those three people a while back. Makes me nervous to get on the water. He just plowed over the other boat at top speed and never checked up.

Cooler Pic!

I stay off the big water areas until after Veterans Day but being in a kayak is like riding a motorcycle. You have to expect that they don't see you and always be prepared to get out of the way on you own. Not right, but just the way it is. Guys running and gunning during a Bass Tournament is one of the worst times. They'll run over you to make a couple casts at a laydown and then take off again at 50 MPH even deep in the back of narrow creeks.

Good job. Sounds enjoyable and nice cooler full.

Returned to Limestone this morning fishing from 7AM till around 11AM, kept a limit. I expected a few skinny water guys after my post yesterday, but I had it to myself. Nothing would chase a jig and bobber; all fish came off single pole jigging anywhere there was brush or a laydown. Visibility was 18 inches in the current, around a foot in the pits and 67 degrees when I started. It had warmed to 70 degrees by the time I left. Great morning!
