First one ever
And hopefully the last. After getting skunked on the carp again in three hours stowed the carp gear and grabbed rod with my trusty floating worm for some bass fishing. In just a few casts I get a hit and set the hook. Strong hard fighting fish but felt weird. It was an Oscar, close to 12" and easily over a pound. Someone released it into a city park lake. Heard they were good to eat and gave it to another person fishing there. I'll ask how it was the next time I see him. Also caught three bass over 12 ", picture of the biggest one.Attachment 509746Attachment 509747Attachment 509748Attachment 509749

That would be a surprise catch. Glad you got your line stretched.

Never ate one but seen a video in Florida where they caught them and said they were good eating. They are cichlids like Tilapia so maybe they taste like them.

The first thing I thought when I saw your picture was" those are good eating". I used to grow them in my 55gal tank decades ago growing up and when I switched to saltwater, I filleted my oscars. Those are red oscars BTW. When a relative got rid of his 55gal tank. I took his two oscars and filleted them too.
The have a very steak-like texture like swordfish or marlin. Much better than tilapia. Tilapia are crap fish IMO.
