Hey , LVSpinfisher1
This quote you posted on my “Spotted Sunfish” got me to thinking about the orangespot sunfish .
LVSpinfisher1;
“Nice little catches, Chaser! I've learned that although no single US state will contain all species of sunfish, Florida has the most. I'm most certainly a species (AKA "whatever bites" )type of fisherman I will be intrigued if ever run into an opportunity to take a few sunnies not available this stateside. When asked, Pumkinseed, Longeared, and Orangespot often came up to mind as being very pretty catch.”
I looked up the orangespot sunfish , both pictures and the their territory.
The western part of my state of Georgia was included in the territory and then I realized I’ve caught some orangespot sunfish and thought they were a redbreast hybrid .
These fish are great fighter ! They have a longer body than the redbreast and have bright orange tipped fins .
Actually caught one today .
At least I think it’s an Orangespot !

I’ve been wondering what they were as I’ve caught a few lately. Pretty things for sure with vivid colors. Thanks for the ID.
