1st drop short water at that dock , at that lake , the black crappie are about always near the beginning of the docks in shallower water , no clue why , but to be sure closer to the bank side , the white crappie there tend to stay considerably deeper than the black crappie :highfiveQuote:

Could the Blacks be more interested in the rocks, like where they could find small craws &/or emerging larvae, whereas the Whites are looking for minnow species in deeper water ??Quote:

I think Black crappie prefer clearer water and can see better in shallow water areas unless it's windy and shallows get stirred up. Lot's of tasty tidbits like fry there too.
