Why has the Virginia forum died off?
Oh, it's not just the Va. forum nonono .... the whole site has been "slow" with content for the last several months. Weather notwithstanding, what with all the tornados, floods, and high air temps, it's still been devoid of the usual amount of discussions & fishing reports. I'm at a loss as to exactly why, and can only vouch for my own lack of reporting about my fishing trips ... simply because I haven't been. The one lake I like to fish has only recently (early July) come down to Summer Pool from the early April floods. I haven't been in July due to extreme heat & health problems. I even cancelled having our annual Spring Fling due to the lack of interest over the last couple of years, but it didn't matter because the lake was almost 30ft over Summer Pool during the normal time frame it would have occurred (late April).
I haven't been either. Always something else taking the time I could be fishing or it is just way to hot to be outside there
Facebook has killed many great forums. Some of us old farts ain’t got no Facebook and don’t want it either. Reckon I’m just a dinosaur. When I found this place it was hopping. Old Horseshoer kept us entertained with his stories. Need a couple more lively ones like him and some others that have passed on.
Can’t you see I’m a dinosaur, cuse me man, give us our hats, where’s the door.
It's always slow on here during the hot season. :dono
Years ago I would post weekly as I fished for crappie 65-70 times per year. This year I have only gone fishing 4 times. (And I own two fishing boats) I did eat some crappie the other day that I caught last fall and they tasted great so perhaps that will motivate me to give the golf game a break and get back out on the water. I have been golfing a ton and am addicted to it. I played over 140 rounds each of the last two years and have played a ton this year as well. Weekends are just not long enough. My wife would lose her mind if I golfed on Saturday and went fishing on Sunday.
Of my 4 fishing trips this year, twice to Burnt Mills and twice to the North Landing River, I have only caught 15 crappie combined so I definitely have lost my mojo. I hear of them catching lots of big crappie out of the Chick River and would like to learn that body of water but in my two trips over the years there I did poorly. Not used to that whole tidal thing.
@tapout64 - you still working or retired?
I am 61 and will be working for at least another 9 years. Hanging onto both of my boats for when that day comes as I can't golf 7 days a week, going to have to get out there and chase the crappie down.
I too haven’t been fishing much. I really miss it and need to get out. Just have a lot going on. Mom’s aging and some issues sister and I are a little busy. Plus overtime (forced) at work has been crazy for a couple years now. I’ll get back out there when the weather cools a little bit.
Hope all of you and your family’s are doing well. Would like to see you on the water.
