Newbie At A New Pond
Hello Fellow Crappie Lovers-
As the title says, im new to fishing panfish using ultralight gear and going to a pond that I have never been to. My question is, what rig set up should I use first as I am just going to bring one pole with one rig set up. I know I should ask other anglers there what has been productive for them. But if I was to go there without any knowledge of what rig to use, what would you folks try first, float, swimbait, drop shot, etc.? If you folks could suggest what soft baits, size and colors to use, that would be much appreciated.
Fish On!!

I would bring me some tiny jigs and really small pencil floats and a bottle of glo white Berkley crappie nibbles.
I would carry 3 or 4 starkly different colors and run them at variable depths until I found some fish.
Beyond that much , I know about nothing on anything in your area when it comes to ketchn fish , but to be sure "something" will bite that set up in that pond is my guess ...
luck to ya :cheers2

My choices would be ...
1/32oz or 1/16oz marabou Road Runner in Electric Chicken or Grey/Grey (weight of jig depends on water depth around the bank & line size being used)
Small float & TTI Blakemore "Slab Caller" jigs (any flavor with chartreuse or pink in the mix)

Thanks for chiming in Ketchn and CrappiePappy.
Yes, unfortunately i’ve left out ALOT of variables, but wanted to get a general feeling to what to try out at this pond. I know its summer and I’m thinking the fish in this pond is down deep. Gonna try and find out how deep this pond is (hopefully there is a topography of the pond itself with depths charted) and go from there.
I was thinking of going the bobber route first.
Fish On! … or should I say “Bobber Down!”

If you’re casting you might try a white 1/16 jig with a white, yellow, chartreuse or favorite curl tail grub superglued to the jighead. Very versatile and if you want to mix it a bit more, put the same jig on a beetle spin style frame. It’s worked for me very well. I also get a small Plano box to fit in a pocket to carry spares.
