Catalpa worms

Got a tree but has not had any worms . Anyone got any within driving range of New Albany ? Was told to put 50 worms on it and it would produce .

I am. Not close. Mine have not began to produce yet this year. They are later than usual

My uncle's place has a 40 tree grove that hasn't been trimmed since 911. I doubt any worms on them.
Trees have to be kept short for worms.

There is a place that sales them online. They arrive alive. Seems as if you can ship them

How are you guys rigging these worms?

For catfish I pinch the head off and turn them inside out on a circle hook. Under a jug they are deadly

For just about all fish just thread them on hook, enough juices come out to attract fish. Used to be a lot of trees around here that produced but most no longer do.

Largest tree I've seen produce worms was about 9 inches diameter at the ground with first limbs/leaves 8 foot from the ground.
Worm producers cut the trunk at knee height every winter starting at 2" diameter. New growth looks like fishing poles coming from the trunk.

I have one in front of the house that is too big to reach around. Still has worms on it. Only way to harvest them is be there at first light and grab them as they come down the tree to bury themselves in the ground. They have to be frozen immediately before they start to turn into their next stage. The other trees are smaller you can pick them off the limbs. I freeze them in cornmeal and keep for later. The cornmeal keeps them from sticking together

Jack, I've seen that once in my lifetime. A store was built on a large lot and the tree was saved close to the corner bus stop. After worms were on it they cut it down. Wrong season so no new growth.
