If you have to choose one, which would you choose?
A - Earthworm
B - Maggots
C - Mealworms
I was working on my worm bin outside last week and some flies visited. Next thing I know there are maggots hanging out with my worms. I'm going to do a Pepsi challenge on the different worms. Just wanted to see what other people have experienced with these natural baits.

I tried raising mealworms years ago for bream bait. A coworker got me started free.
Know a local beekeeper? Ask for waxworms.
I rase meal worms but because they are almost nothing to raise . Only time I ever lost any was to tried to water . I like red wigglers for red ear .
A friend would tie house fly maggots jigs using a white/cream colored nitrate glove and color the heads with a black sharpie. Was a killer in a bream pond.
He made fish feeding stations using hardware cloth and hang them from trees over the pond. Place a bag of fish trimmings in a bag on the wire with holes in the bag. Maggots would fall from the bag into the water and there was a churning at the surface. He'd collect some of the maggots for live bait too.
The maggots was working for the crappies. Did some experiments past few weekends. After I ran out of minnows I started using jigs. When they stopped biting the jigs, I tipped the hook with crappie bites. When they stopped biting again I switched over to tipping with maggots, the bite started back up. Mind you, this is all done at the fishing pier. Next thing I know something huge came and bit. All I hear was pop, line snapped. Hit so hard, broke my heart. I did not check the drag. I’ll be gunning for that monster from now on. That was on the other rod as I was baiting the one in my hand.
What kind of maggots are they? Cream colored white house fly maggots or the large dark grey/black ground maggots. I think they are deer fly or horse fly maggots.
I think they are just regular house fly. Little white ones. I was surprised that they are not slippery, has a rough texture like leather. Almost look like extra large grains of rice.
