Anyone fish with fire flies just after sunset? Either as the bait, or to add some glow to your choice. Some say it's like an "Open For Business" blinking sign, or perhaps the little fishees go after it with reckless abandon thinking "It was just sooo beautiful...".:Rofl
Fireflies or as we call them- "Lightening Bugs" have all but disappeared from my area. Don't know why.
Still getting pretty cool in the evenings here and haven't seen any. Of coarse since quiting smoking I'm not on the porch as much any more either...
Pesticides, lawn chemicals, habitat loss (short cut grass & manicured lawns), and artificial outside lights are major contributors to the decline of Lightening Bugs.

not sure what or why but we rarely see them anymore , like nimrod says we used to play with them when we was wee ones .....

I have always wanted to go see the synchronized ones in the Smoky Mountains.
Never tried them as bait. See some in the city here but not many. Last year on a camping/fishing trip they were out in force, never seen so many at one time.
Lightning Bugs we call 'em around here too. We got some around here, a good bit actually, but like yall say, nothing like they used to be.
At my previous home, up on a mountain, we used to watch them light up high on the mountain just a little after dark, and then slowly thousands of them would slowly migrate down the mountain, down into the holler way down below, would take 'em about an hour or so. It was common in the early evening this time of year to say "Let's go out on the porch and watch the lightnin' bugs go down". I miss that. I see some around our lake here, but nothing like it was on the mountain.
