Color by water clarity

I'm sure we've all had this discussion before, but just wanted to throw it out there again and see if anybody had any new ideas. What colors do you like to throw in various water clarity situations?
I hear dark colors for muddy water (and they include black and chartreuse in this, apparently to say chartreuse is a dark color, which doesn't make a lot of sense to me) and light colors in clear water. I'm not sure what they mean by light colors if chartreuse is considered dark. Also, where do natural colors like brown, etc. fit into this? Are they considered light, thereby for clearer water? Anyway, just throwing it out there. Hope everyone is having a good season!!!

If I'm throwing chartreuse it's normally just the tail of the body and the upper is dark. For light colors I like pearl white, any shad type color and started really liking some of the silver sparkle jig bodies.

You might experiment with the jig body sizes also. Good Luck!

I use many of the same colors & combos for whatever the water color is, but then I don't fish "muddy" water conditions very often, either.

I mostly use these 4 :

Monkey Milk
Chartreuse (yellowtruse)
Pink & Hot Pink (marabou Road Runners only)
Junebug/Chartreuse

Jig color combos, like Blk/Char, are more for contrast than to say chartreuse is a "dark" color. You'd be surprised at what a fish can see in dirty water, and how far away they can see. And in really dirty/muddy water, they don't rely as much on "seeing" as they do on "feeling" the vibrations of water displacement (thru their Lateral Line).

In muddy water I like to fish bigger baits in the 3" range to give fish a better chance of seeing it. Color combinations in black, white, chartreuse with a little red or orange mainly. When I paint jigs I put 3-4 colors on my jigs and the same with my materials that I use when tying. I fish rivers a lot this year and sometimes they are so muddy that I think no way they will even see my baits but then I get hammered. Really turbid ….possibly chart or orange or a combination of those
Really muddy ….possibly orange or black/ chart combo
Really clear … likely something in a natural color …with sparkle
Sometimes lots of contrast is the key as well ….just saying

Not a big believer in changing colors. Muddy. I tend to use bigger baits but main thing livescope has taught us is presentation . Putting the bait on their nose or just above so they see it. Using mostly white hand ties these days .
