River to lake day
My son Jim and I got out early and started at the river and was fishing a water discharge. Tied on a 1/4 oz underspin I tied the day before and caught a big spotted bass on the third cast. Was a jumper and dark, thought I had a smallie at first. A little bit later he hooks a nice white bass. I hooked a Bowfin that charged my underspin and grabbed it at the bank actually bouncing off my shoe back into the water. Really mean fish that didn't want it's picture taken after a couple minutes ripped free. Left spot and headed for lake 5 minutes away for some gill action. They were biting and caught 20 or so in the first hour there. Still biting but left to try other areas. Found some bedding Redear but could only get one to bite. He kept throwing the underspins and caught a few small bass and a channel cat.Attachment 504913Attachment 504914Attachment 504915Attachment 504916Attachment 504917Attachment 504918

I haven't caught a Bowfin since I was a child when I caught two at a local park. Brought one home and dad told me what it was and bury in my worm bed. Hooked a few since then but they got away. Would have liked to have gotten a couple pictures. They have a blue/green color inside their mouth and some nasty teeth. Cool fish...
