My son and his BF really had it going on and I helped
My bf was up with us which is unusual as bud of his has place 20 miles away that is all private land but wanted to be at our place. He and I went turkey hunting/scouting on a nice patch of public land. He actually stayed and went after them. I went out for a while as several boomers were down an easy path for me to walk a short distance and set up. they gobbled for half hour then hit ground and went other way with a crowd of hens. So I eased back and went down to a spot on big field where I could glass an area that usually had a few wandering and sure enough a big tom and couple jakes were out feeding.
then headed to our place to go fish with my son. He actually got ambitious got up with his buddy who went hunting and decided to go hit the lake. Nothing in usually good places so he headed to my honey hole where he had tore them up couple weeks back. I was having some coffee and sitting in recliner with the heating pad going when he came back grinning and he had his limit quickly plus his bf caught quite a few which was his first time fishing on bank doing well, both are learning. Very proud of how they have figured it out. we went back there so I could join in the fun and caught a dozen or so nice ones. back at camp my bud had come back and was making biscuits and gravy so we had late breakfast and then decided to go to another lake not to far away as had heard good things from a new friend.
we hit the dock over there and I and my son got into them ketch quite a few and some good size along with some shorts. my buddy caught biggest one a 13 inch male just nosing out a big female I had caught and then some more. Good time for sure. Same place that bymo's family had killed them at couple weeks back. we took some pics then called a neighbor who came over and was grateful for the nice mess o fish.
next day my son and his buddy went to my honey hole while I mostly watched and tore them up yet again. I know all the dad's out there know the feeling when your child suddenly gets something important to you.
great weekend, no turkeys but I did get to watch Sunday morning 3 toms boomed out with a nice harem of hens with them. Had others around me gobbling but hens were still out and about and hard to call them away from the real thing. it was a bad weekend for weather but we were ketchn and folks around the lake when we checked were not. really strange but after all the rain and cold fronts not unexpected.
