I hit the boat ramp last evening despite some intermittent rain, bringing a couple UL combos and a MH bass rod. The stripers weren't biting, so it was mainly a UL day.
The micro-spoons were killing the gills and yellow bass -- I pulled in nearly 20 in a couple hours. The 1/32oz beetle spin (which is my standard go-to) only got a couple fish. (With the bass rod using a tube jig I was searching for wipers, having caught a 3lber from the same location last week. While it's fun to land those big guys, I much prefer the process/feel of UL.)
For micro-spoons, I used the Iprimi 56XXUL-S paired with a Tsurinoya Lanius 800 and 2lb Reaction Tackle Ice mono. I was throwing the beetle spin on a Mifine Microbite S-562 XUL with a Tsurinoya Ranger 800 and 3lb Varivas Twitchmaster. The 2lb Reaction Tackle Ice mono is my second favorite mono line right now and is a little smaller in diameter than the 2lb Trout SOS (.12mm vs .16mm). 3lb Twitchmaster is my overall fav -- just wish it wasn't out of stock!
This was the first time I've had real success with micro-spoons. Don't know why I wasn't getting much before, but the fish were really nailing them last night. These ones were cheapo 0.8g versions from AliExpress costing me roughly 15 cents each. As a result, I have no qualms about chucking them into dicey areas like rocks and weeds on light line since I'm only out pocket change if a lose a few. The irony is, I haven't lost a single one this year! They also cast far and get good depth control.
