This year the dock hasn't produced nearly as well as in past years. Is this one of the low years in the "7 year crappie cycle" I've heard about? Please let me know your thoughts...

I would think your presumption has merit....everyone that I've talked with, including full time guides and tournament anglers, have agreed this has been a down year. I think the lack of rain (clear water conditions), weather variations (very cold with very quick warm up following), and fishing pressure in general made for a tough spring season. Last year was a banner year (big class of large fish & numbers)....maybe we were due a down year.

My catch rate is WAY down course I aint been fishing near as much as usual. When I do get some time to go, and after finding some quality fish, there's always stuff that comes up that keeps me off the water. And I agree with everyone.....fishing for crappie is down from what we are all used to. Still bringing home enough to eat but finding it hard to fill the freezer.
It has been a rough year for me too. The water temp came up to 60 real fast and i thought game on. But this has been a bad year seems like. Not near the amount of boats in pistol and cooter creeks as normal.
The good news is the Stripers and Hybrids have made up for it. We've caught our limits at almost all outings. One day last week we caught and released 77.Quote:
