The Rez April 12

I at first thought the wind might be slow enough for spider rigging again, although I forgot how it is coming from the north. I started off spider rigging but had to switch to Livescope fishing to keep the jigs steadier over structure. My son and I caught 5 this way for the first 3.5 hours. For the fun of it we, went to a different location to pull crankbaits and caught 5 in an hour, bringing our total to 10. If this wind keeps up, I’m gonna have to do more casting at a distance, install some crappie brakes, or just resort to crankbait pulling.

BTW, my son did have a fun fight with a goo that he caught on crankbait—it was just 1 oz shy of 3 lbs.

Looks like good quality fish. I just checked the Spillway volume and it's around 9KCFS. I will be waiting till it gets down to 4-5 before heading up. This dry spell will drop the flow quickly.

I spider rigged at the causeway yesterday. The wind wasn’t bad. The biggest problem I had was from all the boat traffic going underneath the bridge and across Pelahatchie bay. The wakes were bouncing my poles and line all day. I did catch some crappie but I will have a better strategy next time. I heard plummers slough is good for crappie this time of the year. I might try there next.

The bottom of The Rez produces well this time of year. I used to bump jigs right off the bottom over by the Condos when too much traffic on the other side. Produced well.

Nice catch! Never give up and never giving in will always produce a few nice fish.
