I'm just getting started to get serious about painting my own jigs and was wondering if there is a way to clean jigs that have been setting for years? Or does it matter?

Are they painted or unpainted? Any oxidation on the jigs? Some jigs aren't worth the trouble to repaint.
I’m sure running a little fine Emery cloth on fine steel wool lightly wouldn’t hurt. Experiment and see if it makes a difference…:dono
I have jig heads that are way over nine years old and they have got wet and they look really horrible but we still go ahead and Powdercoat them. Lungs oxidation isn’t very thick but if you need me to post pictures, we can do that for you..
I’d just powder paint and not worry about them. When heating it might make them shiny again but don’t heat until they melt…:Rofl
Normally not a problem!! I'd say try a few and see how they come out and if it doesn't work out you can clean them up with some vinagar and water mix then rinse and wipe down. After make sure they're real dry before powder coating!!
