I’m not a cheap guy and bought too many bags of plastic but when come to lures that work I would trim, cut hook them up side down etc until they don’t have room for me to hook straight anymore. Would you do the same?
This one probably caught me crappies from 10” all the way to 15” close to 20 for the last two nights. I know it would be a lot easier to just use a new one (still have almost full pack) but I feel bad throw away working one. End the night with my trusty CB slider grub red/yellow.

Yep .... I've been known to pinch/bite off the torn head of a plastic lure, time & time again, until I either have to use a smaller jig or put on a whole new one. And that's especially true if the plastic lure is getting hammered !!

Fish not near as picky as fishermen. Why toss something that will still catch fish? I used to use insert heads with tubes for decades in one color. Then to help a friend get his hand ties out there I used them. People said I was wrong color mattered. So I started making jigs out of trash. These trash jigs made out of shopping bags and thread outlast anything on the market at lowest cost. I super glue the layers of thread. Nothing to catch over 300 Crappie before one wears out. :biggrin

I pour my own baits so when one goes bad I just replace it with another one. The great thing is I just remelt the old bait and make another one.
Awesome job. I actually do the same thing. I sometimes cut on purpose because I feel sometimes they prefer the smaller profile.
I modify everything else- why not baits?
I see that BG Slab Huntr cut in half, those are nasty
Try the Texas avocado bg version . Known to be super deadly at night in these parts on a pink head
That is also my favorite color but on bass assassins tiny shad. It works well with both bluegill and crappie. They seem to like any of yellow, chartreuse type around here.Quote:
