The next day
Very unlike me, my wife woke me at 8 o’clock this morning. Felt good actually. So I got a late start as we’d already missed our church service we prefer. Started about 9 and fishing about 9:30. I passed what didn’t produce yesterday and eased into what I knew might give up a few. With conditions like this is there any doubt why I couldn’t stay home . Temp was 57* and getting warmer.

My pet fish theory got blown up today as these fish were clearly different but also not in a crowd. First fish felt good with a serious thump. His cousins that came shortly after were also rather playful. Only three of them but I was glad to start the day.

Last winter I got a few of these but they’re pretty rare caught on a jig. Fight pretty good too, I was sure it was a good gill.

Around these parts they’re known as a gold shiner. To the bass guys they can cost three bucks and usually generate a big bass. Cool to meet him.
Moved out to the river and posts and trees and blowdowns. Pickings were kinda slim but I got a half dozen shorts or so and a couple that would’ve kept, but they’re all still there. Boat traffic and wind were both much easier on my little boat than yesterday.

I fooled around a bit and checked some other spots but nobody home. About 1:30 I packed up and headed home to take my queen to lunch and trashed around some afterwards. All in all a pretty good day that warmed up to 70* and the trend for the week is more of the same. Looking forward to it after a week in my bib overalls. Y’all stay warm and I hope you can get out some. Til next time……Skeet.

Awesome! Nice catches !
Those golden shiners can put up a good battle on ultralight tackle.
There’s a backwater cove in the closest water reservoir near me that will produce big shiners this time of the year on warm days .
I hope to get an opportunity toward the end of the week to find out if they’re still there . Or maybe next week.
Predictions are calling for warmer weather.

Good trip. Sounds very enjoyable. Pretty interesting you caught a shiner on a jig.

We have a guy here (state of Texas) that just recently caught a state record for a golden shiner. It was right at 12 inches long.

That shiner might be a little too big for crappie but a snack for a big bass. Looks like it's finding plenty to eat.

A very fun and enjoyable day.
