Cast & Blast in Lacombe
My son and I enjoyed the last day of the Louisiana East Zone duck season today. The birds were almost non-existent but my son did manage to fold 3 early before the morning flight stopped. I didnt even fire a shot. With the birds not cooperating we decided to pick up at 0800 and try our luck at crappie fishing.
Weather: Cloudy
Wind: 15 mph SE
Tide: Low
Water clarity: stained
We fished the mouth of the cut with small bridge that dumps into the main bayou where the camps start. Found a good school of scattered fish on the bottom in about 8 ft of water. Started pitching monkey milk baby shads with 1/16 chartreuse jig heads and started picking up a few. Switched to the old faithful, black and chartreuse tube jig and it was on! Ended the day with 12 decent sized crappie, 4 bass, a nice red ear and 3 teal to close out the hunting season. My son also hooked into a huge blue cat on live scope. I would estimate it to have been over 20 lbs. We had to chase it down the bayou but the 8lbs line didnt stand a chance. Tight lines...
