Is it unusual for crappie to be filled with eggs this time of year?
No sir !
I see it every year starting around October from what I understand they start reproducing eggs around that time frame for the next year !
It’s funny you asked. A buddy of mine has been doing night stalks on lake Rhodhiss for the past month and noticed it too. FYI, He’s been catching some nice ones too.Quote:

They have already formed their eggs. Some believe it adds to the aggressive feeding of the females this time of year.
Crappie's are cyclical spawners, they can have numerous spawns in a single season and sometimes not spawn for a while, if I'm not mistaken. But a lot of things are out of whack on earth right now

Research indicates, at least with adult crappies, that white crappie are more effective than black crappie at capturing food items in water with poor visibility. Large white crappie are strong fish predators. Black crappie also eat fish, but gut checks during summer months will often show their stomachs — even those of large fish — jammed full of ¼-inch long, almost transparent midges (flying insects that resemble mosquitoes.)
I found this interesting, I've seen some say black crappies eat more bugs
