Water Came Up A Little

The Atchafalaya River came up a little over the last couple of days, so I made a quick trip this morning to see if I could get into the same area I’ve caught in over the past couple of months. The wind was terrible (15-20 mph), but I was able to find a few. The water temperature was 75-76 degrees, and I caught a few in 3-3.5 feet of water under a slip cork with a 1/64 oz jig head (black and chartreuse curly tail Big Bite jig), but the majority were in a deep hole (5’) on a brush pile. Very thankful to catch some sacalait!

Yeah, glad to here of the shallower holding pattern too. The wind here is blowing the saltwater way into our rivers raising the water levels. Tides are running above normal now. High water and shallow fish means low catch rates as the fish will move over the flooded grounds and feed on bugs. Did the Atchafalaya River rise from rain over that way or did the wind blowing water into the Basin increase the water levels?

Not sure on why it’s rising. We got a good bit of rain last Thursday, but it was already forecast to come up slightly before the rain. Not sure if they’ve gotten rain more in the mid/northern areas of the country.

I haven't paid a lot of attention to rain that far over. Makes sense must be rain water.
