Electronics upgrade, bass and crappie set up?

My grandson will be using my boat next year, probably a few years, for bass fishing for high school this spring.
I have a 7" Humminbird Gen 3 side scan mega on it and I use a portable $120 Garmin on the trolling motor sometimes, mostly for down imaging.

My son in law wants to put some electronics on the boat and since I will be using it too, I figure we may split the cost but haven't discussed it with him yet.
I definitely want side scan and a bigger screen, otherwise I'm happy with Humminbird.
Should we just go to Livescope? Or both? I'm not a big tech guy, I hear Livescope has a pretty good learning curve and I'm not sure I want to mess with it for a year before getting good on it.

I may should ask this in a bass forum but I'm not a member of one, I only bass fish occasionally, and not seriously.

Your thoughts?

I’m sure your grandson can teach you all about any electronics or devices. My 6 yr old daughter was teaching her teacher stuff in her classroom about devices. Livescope is awesome and can really help catch fish. I’d probably let him help decide too. Especially after he’s been around some of the others and sees what works good for them.

I'd say go for the Livescope, in addition to what's already onboard. If he's competing, he's most likely gonna be going against other Bass anglers that are running Livescope ... and without it he's going to be at a disadvantage. Just my :twocents

Get livescope. If you crappie fish & really try it you'll learn how to use livescope & should catch more fish.

He wants to fish and that's probably gonna cost me a lot of money. Funny how that works. :)

I've had the lvs 32 for a couple years now & just ordered an lvs 34 yesterday. Nothing like livescope in my opinion.

Bigger screen is better and livescope stinks :Rofl
