Option #2

I’m glad I have a few options within thirty minutes of my house.

This morning I started at Lake McIntosh with the hopes of doing a little jig twitching with my 5’ St Croix Premier ULF paired with a Shimano Soare XR 500sspg , and some Island Blue Daiwa J-braid .

Mother Nature had other plans with wind gusts over twenty five miles per hour. I luckily caught a small shellcracker and a small bluegill before I packed up and headed to the Town Pond for some float n jig fishing.

At least at the pond I can move around and try to get the wind behind me to allow for some decent casts . I moved four time in the hour I spent there .

Shifting around paid off with three shellcrackers and three bluegills .
My float fishing combo today was a light powered 6’6” St Croix Triumph fast rod , paired with a Shimano Nasci 500 , spooled with 3# Flouroclear.
A nice float n jig combo . I like it better than the new 7’ Avid ULF .

I’m glad I have options if one place doesn’t pan out .

Always nice to have options so close. There are a few private ponds near me that are unfortunately off limits per the owners. :bash

I’ve lost three private local spots on ponds the last few years.
Owners moved , one pasted away, and the other we just drifted apart and I hadn’t pursued it . All three were excellent spots .

It’s different than fishing mono lines .
Has pros and cons .
I’m learning to like it :) and deal with the cons .
Like using a leader and it blows around easily with the wind . And it doesn’t sink as quickly as mono .

I’ve swapped it out and back a couple of times .
But I keep going back to it because I love the way it feels fishing . I feel every little nibble and it makes the little ones feel bigger .
I feel every head turn and tail swish . You get all of the fight out of the fish .
Particularly like it on my fiberglass rods .

It’s on most of my reels again . Except my float n jig reels , for now . Mainly because the brown water at the Town pond changes the color of the line. I may try some dark green on a float rig so the water won’t bother it.

I’m using the 6# test . 1.5# test diameter .003 usually with a 4# Floroclear leader.
It has helped me save a few jigs that I would have broken off using 2# Floroclear and allows me to lift fish that would have broken off lifting .

I agree, it’s nice to have options. Bank fishing here has assorted wildlife and insects that kinda take the fun out of it for me, plus I can’t stand in one spot very long. Right now the river and most of the lakes are at or near flood stage and this section of the river hasn’t peaked yet. Boat ramps are closed in fresh water everywhere I know of. I just found out that some salt water ramps are open so there’s that. Glad to see you still getting out and showing me what good looking fish you have nearby. You’re a fortunate man.
