Another Decent Atchafalaya Basin Trip
Went back to the same area yesterday as I did two weeks ago. River is dropping again, so it takes a while to idle through the cypress tree swamp to get there. Found them in the same general area. Water level in the open lake area averages about 3.5- 4 feet, but there is one "deep" area about 6 feet deep in the middle of the open water with a little structure. Caught them about 4' deep under a slip cork with a 1/64 oz jig head and tiny black and chartreuse curly tail jig. Also caught several casting and slow reeling a new color (Goblin Snot) Slab Curly crappie magnet jig. The little bass was a fun bonus, reeling him in on a 7' Sam Heaton Super Sensitive rod....felt like a 10 lber! Beautiful day in a beautiful area, so I'm very thankful.

Went Back Yesterday Afternoon
Had such a good time on Sunday morning, I went back yesterday afternoon. The fish weren't nearly as cooperative. Saw a bunch of fish, but despite changing colors, jig size, and presentation, couldn't get many of them to bite. Not sure if it made a difference, but the water temperature was at least 6 degrees warmer yesterday afternoon than it was Sunday morning. Ended up catching a few....not many, but size was nice....3-12", 1-13", and a 14". It took 2 or 3 attempts for most of the fish I caught. Thought I'd share what the area looks like with everyone. The picture with the crowded cypress trees is a flooded cypress swamp where you have to idle and zig zag through for about ten minutes to get where it opens up.
