Yes for sure ......
Stumbled up on a spot I like and probably due to the internet there stands a fella with a float and a jig :yikes
Says his uncle and dad been hammering there every day and sent him down there ! :yikes
Says they hit it at 7 am and lunch time too ! :yikes
I say well that explains why it's been pretty slow when I visit lately ........:Rofl
Asked what "site" they groomed the information off of and he wasn't exactly sure ....
possibly fishbrain ?
well I watched him a bit and it was obvious he wasn't gunna harm a single lip.
I asked him if he managed to ketch any and he said no sir ....
very polite young fella for sure ....
Anyway he has a weighted float nonono and a jig tied on with a weird knot nonono and he has it set about 12 inches under the float nonono
So I said you know what bro , why don't you let me teach you how to ketch them , I got the time .......
First you need a real float .....next you need a real jig .....and then you need your depth set accordingly and finally a crappie nibble .....
it is very obvious his skill set and or training on how to ketch fish is limited EVEN though he has 3 rods and a tackle box the size of my laundery basket with him .....
So here we go .....I set him up and said let me please cast it for ya one time and show what to look for and how to use this set up ......
well to be sure he ain't used to this type of venue and he struggles terribly ....
I employ my best patience level and keep encouraging him ....
he says if I can just ketch one crappie it will make my day .....
I said bro I will stand here and coach ya until you do ....:highfive
well it was tough , we had the in length discussions about watching that float like a hawk
AND then finally my patirnce was gone and I said ....just give me the dang rod and watch me !:Rofl
so I ketched one small one right fast and asked him if he saw the "list" in float and he said yes ....
so I said do what I did and WATCH that float close .
a tiny tick is a bite
a slight rise is a bite
a slight sink is a bite
a laydown is a bite
a go under is for sure a bite
and a float that wanders away is a bite
Well after lot's of fails he ketched one !
he was so excited and I went into more details .... on depth setting and locations there that produce .
he wanted to ketch a big one like his uncle did and showed me the image
I said patience is key bro and you will wade thru several small ones is my guess before a big one comes out to play ....
pretty soon he was really ketchn em .....
the sizes went from under 10 inches to over 10 inches and after 10 or so ....
THEN it happened ,,,,he got a very slight tick and I said SET the hook , THAT'S a BITE ....
well let me tell ya ,the fight was ON and it was BIG and somehow he managed to land it as well !
What a big ole jim dandy river 14 incher it was all fat and sassy and just beautiful !
He looked like a kid in the candy store I swear ....he was just about dancing ....
he held it up and I took a few picutures of him with it with his phone .....
Not so sure I didn't create a monster , but for sure ....
IT MADE MY DAY !
maybe if I see him again I will ask him to send me that image ....
it was a splendid time for sure :cheers2
KABOOM is near ...
p.s. I WAS wearing my Crappie.com oil field camo ballcap btw.....:highfive
