Budget Combo bobber fishing trip
I got to going through some of my long rods that I hadn’t fish in awhile and picked out one for this Morning’s trip .
I picked a 7’ Daiwa Laguna ULF and paired it with a KastKing Zephyr SFS 1000 reels . One of the older models .
I believe I paid $40 for the rod , and caught the reel on sale for less than $50 at the time .
So a complete combo costing less than a C note . ( I’ve been reading too many books :) lately ) .
Spooled with dark green Daiwa J-braid 1.5# diameter with a 3# Floroclear leader .
My Tungsten handtied jigs were the lures used .
Fishing the Town Pond this week , I’ve got to talk with a few of the regular walkers , that walk the half mile track that partially surrounds the the pond on three sides .
Catching up with them, I found out two of them had had heart attacks . Too much of that going around these days .
The fishing was slower than it had been and in an hour and forty five minutes I managed to land five fish .
Two shellcrackers and three gills .
The combo performed flawlessly , with a couple of the fish pulling drag a little . One of the bluegills fought like a shellcracker and I was surprised when I saw what it was .
Before I take it fishing again , I plan on swapping the reel for a Daiwa Fuego 1000 LT , just because the colors will match up better .
The sky was overcast , with the temps in the mid 70’s , with a light wind occasionally.
Nice morning!
Afterwards I put up my tackle and joined the walkers and got in a mile in just over 19 minutes. Not Olympian , but for an old man I’ll take it !
