9/21/2024 Things are Looking Up On the Funky River But Be Cautious
Austin and I launched at Hwy 22 this morning at 7:30. Water temp was 79 F and falling pretty good. Water was dingy and there was vegetation and wood floating everywhere. Hit a few spots and caught a few here and there. No big groups of sacalait found but when we did find a few grouped together once we yanked one away form the group the rest scattered. The positive was that we did see schools of shad and we did find some sacalait. The largest number of fish were found close to the bank under vegetation and under shallow lay downs and wharfs. Ended up with 10 sacalait and a few were very nice over 12 " with the rest all being over 10". Austin caught a few bass as well.
CAUTION!!!! There were several, at least 5 or 6, NEW TREES way out in the river sticking up a few inches above the water surface. How these people drag their children behind their boats with all these new obstacles sticking out the water is beyond me. We found a few fish in the side canals but the majority were in the main river.
We endured the party boats, the party boats dragging children, the jet ski races, the big yachts just cruising, but the wake board boaters were the worst. They purposely throw a Hugh 3 foot wake so that the person behind the boat can surf in their wake. They threw water over my bow several times today. Obnoxious boaters who swerve left and right to increase their wake. These should be banned in the river. Go in the lake where you are not making boating unpleasant for the other boaters PLEASE.
Another Paw Paw Adventure in the Books!!!
