I’m confused about how to shop for braided fishing line. If the spool says 6lb, is that the breaking point of the line, or is that the equivalent diameter of 6lb mono? If it’s the equivalent diameter, how do I determine the breaking strength?

Correct me if I am wrong but test poundage is what is rated for. Most have a line diameter on the package. I hear some ads saying something like 20 lb test with 6 lb mono diameter. Braids are stronger than mono of same diameter .

Here is an example 15 lb test braid . Stated on label 4 lb test diameter (mono)
Nimrod has it right. I use braid 98% of the time and prefer Power Pro Super 8 Slick, 20lb test has a 6lb mono diameter.
