Yup,,, won a brand new Shimano Calcutta conquest bfs type reel this past week on a waffle,,and I need to pair it up with a ultralite rod,,,, any suggestions on a rod I could buy, not too pricey? I’ll be fishing mostly crappie and whatever er else wants to bite my 132- 3/16 hair jigs,,,can’t wait to try this reel out, sure looks like a keeper,,,

Congrats man that is a very nice and expensive reel. As for the rod, I would suggest getting something not too expensive just in case you don’t like BFS fishing. I’m not sure if you are into bass but that CQ BFS is just perfect for bass. I would getting something a little bit stiffer like Ajing style rod or BFS rod that you can use for both bass and crappie. Of course you not gonna cast 1/32oz hair jig but will be fine with 1/16oz and up.
Thanks for the suggestions,,,I think the rod I need is going to have to be larger for our crappie alone,, some of our panfish get up to 5 lbs around here,,,average is like a 2 lb crappie,,,,so a lightweight bass rod would work perfectly,…Quote:

For double duty and friendly budget I like, Majorcraft Benkei Light/BFS. This rod is capable of 1/16oz jig head plus plastic and can cast 1/16oz roadrunner pretty good distance. Shimano also have Sensilite in Light pretty light and soft. If you don’t mind shopping from Alixpress, Tsurinoya has some pretty decent Rod as well. One thing though, Shimano FTB brake requires a little bit of soft lob cast not whipping whatsoever. Might take a little bit of learning curve.Quote:

I picked up a jdm type called a Lemoren type rod,,,it’s a 6’ 6” rod ultralite and it pairs pretty nicely,,, just alittle more hippy then I like though,,,it has the solid carbon tip and feels pretty solid overall,,, been fun casting that new reel with some 8 lb braid and a 1/8 oz jighead,,,, I get nearly 30 yard casts,,, pretty amazing,,,
